INSTALL version 1.20
OAD DRIVER version 1.20
OAD UTILITIES version 1.20
==============================
INSTALLATION
WINDOWS PROGMAN.INI AND OAD INSTALL
When installing to Windows, INSTALL.EXE renames the original
PROGMAN.INI file to PROGMAN.BAK.
==============================
DRIVER
1. DRIVER SWITCH
The following switch can be used with DOSCFG.EXE and
DOSOAD.SYS.
/L = country : Set the current language to the country code
specified in "country" as specified by the DOS COUNTRY.SYS.
2. OAD DRIVER WITH PPA (PARALLEL PORT ADAPTER)
a. Security systems (such as Watchdog) can disable this adapter,
especially if the security system is loaded before DOSOAD.SYS.
b. When running DOSCFG.EXE from command line, drives connected
to a PPA may not be found.
3. DOSCFG.EXE IN HIGH MEMORY
Do not attempt to load DOSCFG.EXE into high memory. It executes
and terminates, never staying resident in memory.
4. INCREASING THE SPEED OF THE BOOT SEQUENCE
In order to speed up the boot process on a computer in which the
drive configuration never changes, it is suggested that the /M1
switch be replaced with the /M0 switch. If desired the
DEVICE=\DOSOAD\DOSCFG.EXE line can be removed from the CONFIG.SYS
file, after the system has been configured.
If the configuration changes, reinsert the /M1 option.
5. EMM386 RAM OPTION
When using EMM386 with the RAM option the DOSOAD.SYS driver must
be loaded into low memory.
6. 1,024 Byte Sector SUPPORT
1,024 bytes/sector disks CAN NOT be made bootable.
7. IOMEGA 8-INCH BERNOULLI PRODUCTS are not supported at this time.
8. Adapter ROM Code level 10 or greater is required if booting from
an Iomega product.
==============================
UTILITIES
1. OADUTIL.EXE SUPPORTS DOS 6.0 AND DISK COMPRESSION
This version of the utilities has been tested for
compatibility with MicroSoft DOS 6.0 adn MicroSoft Double Space
disk compression.
a. REMOVING THE DISK COULD RESULT IN LOST OR DAMAGED DATA.
Because of the Doublspace limitations, IOMEGA recommends using
DoubleSpace compression only on locked write enabled media.
2. OADUTIL.EXE MEMORY USAGE
The menu mode of OADUTIL.EXE requires about 480K of free memory.
Less memory is required when running in command-line mode.
3. DESQVIEW AND OADUTIL.EXE
OADUTIL.EXE will not run in DESQVIEW.
4. VIDEO ADAPTERS
The following switches can be used on OADUTIL.EXE command
line to force a more readable video interface.
/VGA12 - color vga graphics
/VGA11 - monochrome vga graphics
/TEXT - color text
/LCD - monochrome text
5. MOUSE PROBLEMS
a. NO MOUSE DRIVER
The mouse driver needs to be loaded.
b. ROM BIOS
If the ROM BIOS is loaded into shadow RAM, the mouse
driver may have problems.
c. WINDOWS 3.x
If the OADUTIL.EXE is run under Windows and the mouse is
not present, it may be for one of two reasons:
- The mouse driver needs to be loaded before running
Windows.
- With Windows 3.1, the mouse driver may be an older
version.
d. SWITCHING APPLICATIONS
Switching between OADUTIL.EXE and other Windows
applications may cause multiple mouse pointers left on
the OADUTIL.EXE desktop.
6. STARTING THE OADUTIL.EXE WITHIN WINDOWS
When running OADUTIL.EXE under Windows, always start
OADUTIL.EXE by clicking the Iomega OAD Utility icon.
7. SURFACE VERIFY FORMAT WITH ADAPTEC ADAPTERS USING ASPIxDOS.SYS
When doing a 'Format (long) with Surface Verify' the thermometer
bar will only be updated upon completion of the format. The time
shown to complete the format is approximate.
8. OADUTIL.EXE "Disk Copy" FUNCTION
You can now copy to and from DOS formatted floppy and
hard disks.
Things to be aware of:
a. The OAD Utilities "Disk Copy" function copies only DOS
formatted disks.
b. The OAD Utilities "Disk Copy" function will erase all
data on the destination disk unless "Append Copy" is
selected in the Disk Copy dialogue or by "/A" switch on
command line.
"Append Copy" allows you to append one disk to another.
You may specify a destination path where you would like
to copy to.
As an example, you might want to copy E: to a
subdirectory on D:.
OADUTIL.EXE C E: D: /A:[subdirectory name]
c. The "Append Copy" will replace any files of the same
name and add files that do not already exist.
9. LOCKING THE IOMEGA DRIVE TO INSTALL or RUN CERTAIN SOFTWARE
Some software will only install or run on a fixed disk.
In these cases it may be necessary to use the OAD Utilities LOCK
command.
10. EJECTING A DISK WHEN THE READ/WRITE ACCESS LIGHT IS ON
Removing an Iomega disk when the access light is on is not
recommended.
11. OAD DOS AND OAD OS/2 DIRECTORY CONFLICTS
The Iomega OAD OS/2 and Iomega OAD DOS software drivers and
utilities can not reside in the same subdirectory.
12. USING DOS FORMAT TO FORMAT IOMEGA DISKS
The DOS Format command can be used to format Iomega disks only
if they have previously been formatted using the OAD Utilities.
13. MAKING A BOOTABLE DISK WITH DR DOS 6.0.
When DR DOS 6.0 FORMAT.EXE is used to format a Iomega Disk, the
'/S' switch will not make the disk bootable. You will need to
use the OAD Utility Format with the 'Copy System' option to make
a bootable DR DOS 6.0 Iomega disk. Refer to the 'Disk Format'
section in chapter 3 of the User's Manual for more information,
and instructions on formatting from the command line.
14. OAD UTILITIES DIAGNOSTICS
The OAD Utilities Diagnostic option performs a number of
non destructive data tests on the drive and disk. The disk
must not be write protected when using this diagnostic.
Refer to chapter 4 of the User's Manual for more information.
**============================
MICROSOFT'S SMARTDRIVE
1. OAD DOS WITH SMARTDRIVE
OAD has been tested with MS-DOS Smartdrive. No problems have
been reported with the SMARTDRIVE default. If the default has
been changed and Smartdrive is using the write caching feature,
do not remove the Bernoulli disk until the drive light is no
longer flashing. Removing the disk could result in lost or
damaged data.
2. INVALID UNIT ERROR
The error "INVALID UNIT" may be reported when using OAD with
SMARTDRV.SYS loaded. To correct this problem, add the /G option
after SMARTDRV.SYS.
Example: DEVICE=C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.SYS /G
==============================
SPEEDCACHE+ (SCPLUS.EXE)
1. SCPLUS.EXE SUPPORTS DOS 6.0 AND DISK COMPRESSION
This version of the utilities has been tested for compatibility
with MicroSoft DOS 6.0 and MicroSoft Double Space disk
compression.
2. SCPLUS USE WITH SECURITY SYSTEMS
Some security systems will not work with write-delay caching.
The default SCPLUS settings may have to be modified. (scplus -m)
3. REBOOTING WITH SCPLUS LOADED
SCPLUS may not be able to trap <Ctrl Alt Del> to prevent a warm
boot during certain applications. Be sure all disk accesses have
been completed before rebooting.
==============================
BERNOULLI BACK-IT VERSION 1.3
RESTRICTIONS AND COMPATIBILITY
A number of restrictions and compatibility issues regarding Bernoulli
Back-It version 1.3 are described in the README.TXT document located
with the Bernoulli Back-It program in the \OADDOS\BBACKIT directory.
===============================
NON-IOMEGA SCSI ADAPTER SUPPORT
1. OAD DRIVER WITH ADAPTEC ADAPTERS -
(1520, 1522, 1540(B or C), 1542(B or C), 1640, 1740, and 1742)
a. Load the ASPIxDOS.SYS (x=2,4 or E) driver before any
memory manager in the CONFIG.SYS file.
b. Remove the ASPIDISK.SYS loaded in the CONFIG.SYS file.
c. To ensure the system will be reconfigured during the next
boot, place the /M1 option in the DOSCFG.EXE device driver
line after the ASPIxDOS.SYS driver in the CONFIG.SYS file.
d. Load the DOSOAD.SYS before or after any memory manager
and after the ASPIxDOS.SYS driver in the CONFIG.SYS file.
e. Reboot.
f. Iomega 8-inch 10MB and 20MB Bernoulli drives and
5 1/4-inch 20MB Bernoulli drives are not supported.
g. Using DOS FORMAT.EXE to format a Iomega Disk with the
'/S' switch may not make the disk bootable. You will
need to use the OAD Utility Format with the 'Copy System'
option to make a bootable Iomega disk.
h. Users of Adaptec 1540C and 1542C adapters must load
ASPI4DOS.SYS before DOSCFG.EXE for proper function of
the Adaptec adapter.
2. OAD DRIVER WITH IBM Host Bus Adapter (HBA)
a. When booting your computer make sure that your Iomega
drives have the appropriate media and that it is spinning.
b. Iomega 8-inch 10MB and 20MB Bernoulli drives and
5 1/4-inch 20MB Bernoulli drives are not supported.
c. Using DOS FORMAT.EXE to format a Iomega Disk with the
'/S' switch may not make the disk bootable. You will
need to use the OAD Utility Format with the 'Copy System'
option to make a bootable Iomega disk.
